I have prepared something delicious for you today. In English there is a very interesting phenomenon which is called BLEND WORDS. These are words that are formed by merging the sounds and meanings of two or more other words. 🧐 I assure you that you're already familiar with some of them such as:
🧩 Webinar → web + seminar
🧩 A very famous TV show "Californication" which is a blend of California and fornication (where fornication is a sexual intercourse between people not married to each other)🙈
🧩 Brunch → breakfast + lunch
However, maybe I can introduce you to some of them that you've never thought of as consisting of two separate words. Let's check? 😇
🧩 1. Smog → smoke + fog
🧩 2. Spork → spoon + fork
🧩 3. Cyborg → cybernetic + organism
🧩 4. Motel → motor + hotel
🧩 5. Sitcom → situation + comedy
🧩 6. Hazmat → hazardous + material (e.g. hazmat suit)
🧩 7. Ginormous → gigantic + enormous
🧩 8. Mocktail → mock + cocktail (a non-alcoholic drink consisting of a mixture of fruit juices or other soft drinks)
🧩 9. Pictionary → picture + dictionary
🧩 10. Staycation → stay + vacation (a holiday spent in one's home country rather than abroad)
🧩 11. Electrocute → electro + execute
🧩 12. Forex → foreign + exchange
🧩 13. Moped → motor + pedals
🧩 14. Moonscape → moon + landscape (a landscape resembling the surface of the moon, especially in being rocky and barren)
🧩 15. contraception → contra + conception
🧩 16. Cosplay → costume + play
🧩 17. Emoticon → emotion + icon
🧩 18. Hangry → hungry + angry
🧩 19. Flare → flame + glare
🧩 20. Glimmer → gleam + shimmer
